Ask anyone who was alive during the nineties to tell you what it was like and chances are good that they will describe it as a "strange time". It was a pretty weird time to be alive, right as the internet was starting to take hold and people began switching to using mobile phones. And of course, when people started making the switch from watching movies on VHS to watching them on DVD.
The move from VHS to DVD may not sound all that amazing today, but during the nineties, it was a revolution. No longer did anyone have to waste time rewinding a movie, we could just skip around through the film with a few clicks of the remote. And of course, the quality was infinitely better, making our movie watching experience even more amazing.
There were some amazing films that came out of the nineties, that still remain popular now, two decades later. We're talking about films like The Matrix, Titanic, Jurassic Park, Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, Forrest Gump, The Shawshank Redemption, and The Silence of the Lambs, which have all stood the test of time.
Today we are looking back at some of the cutest guys of the nineties. Rate them all and we'll guess who your favorite was!
Tom Cruise:
The '90s were a good decade for Tom Cruise. He starred in a number of highly successful films including A Few Good Men, The Firm, and Interview with the Vampire (alongside Brad Pitt). Then in 1996, he made his first appearance as IMF agent Ethan Hunt in the action spy film Mission: Impossible which became the third highest-grossing film of the year (as per Wikipedia). Brad Pitt began to get noticed when he played the role of a cowboy hitchhiker in the chick flick, Thelma & Louise. It wasn't long before he was landing starring roles and making a name for himself as a leading man. During the decade he appeared in movies like A River Runs Through It, Legends of the Fall, Interview with the Vampire, and Seven. His performance in the 1995 science fiction film 12 Monkeys earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor and an Academy Award nomination (as per Wikipedia).
Skeet Ulrich:
Skeet Ulrich achieved fame in the nineties for his role as Billy Loomis in Scream and Chris in The Craft. During this decade his other films included Boys, As Good as It Gets, The Newton Boys, Chill Factor, Touch, and Ride with the Devil. Today Paul Rudd is best known for playing the role of Scott Lang AKA Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As this character, he's appeared in Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, and Ant-Man and the Wasp, and he will reprise the role again for Avengers: Endgame. His rise to fame began in the nineties with roles in films like Clueless, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, Romeo + Juliet, The Object of My Affection, 200 Cigarettes, and The Cider House Rules. As a rock star and a successful actor, Jared Leto is proof that it just might be possible to have it all! According to his profile page on Wikipedia Jared is a method actor and is very selective about the film roles he takes on. He got his start in the nineties with supporting roles in movies like The Thin Red Line, Fight Club, and Urban Legend. Leto is also the lead vocalist and songwriter for Thirty Seconds to Mars. Johnny Depp first began acting in the eighties but it wasn't until the nineties that he began to become a star in his own right. His films from that era include Cry-Baby, Edward Scissorhands, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Donnie Brasco, The Ninth Gate, and Sleepy Hollow. Today he is best known for his roles in movie franchises like Pirates of the Caribbean and Fantastic Beasts. Mel Gibson:
During the nineties, Mel Gibson added films like Bird on a Wire, Hamlet, Forever Young, Lethal Weapon, The Man Without a Face, Maverick, Braveheart, Ransom, Fathers' Day, ConspiracyTheory, and Payback to his filmography. Gibson has also directed a number of movies including Braveheart which won the Academy Award for Best Director and Best Picture. The film was a massive success and he returned to play Neo in the next two films of the franchise. Pierce Brosnan played the role of James Bond during the nineties and into the early 2000s, starring in four Bond movies including GoldenEye and The World Is Not Enough. During this time he also appeared in the films The Lawnmower Man, Mrs. Doubtfire, Don't Talk to Strangers, Mars Attacks!, Dante's Peak, and The Tailor of Panama (as per Wikipedia).
