It seems like there are new movies coming out all the time. There are funny movies, romantic movies, spooky movies, and even animated movies hitting theaters and streaming services like Netflix and Hulu all the time. Even for the most dedicated movie lovers, it can be pretty difficult to keep up with watching all of them! But there are some movies that just about everyone has seen. These movies are so popular that they have everyone talking about them and people just can't resist going to theaters to see or adding to their list on Netflix to watch as soon as possible. Even though it's pretty much impossible to see every movie, there are some that are so famous that most people have seen them.
When it comes to choosing a movie to watch, people have their own ways of picking the next flick off their list. Whether it's a genre that they love, the trailer made it look too cool to skip, or their favorite actor or actress appears in it, everyone has a certain thing that draws them in to movies when they come out.

Instead of sending the letter out, she stashes it away in her room where no one will ever see it... or so she thinks. One day, she's mortified to learn that all the letters were delivered.
A Star is Born
A Star is Born is a movie that was released in 2018 that stars Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper as the two main characters, Ally and Jackson. This movie is the third remake of the original film that was released in 1937. In this movie, Ally and Jackson are both musicians who have very different careers at the beginning of the film. While Jackson is a successful musician, Ally is a struggling singer-songwriter who catches Jackson's attention. The two of them start a relationship but find that balancing fame and love isn't easy.
The Devil Wears Prada
The Devil Wears Prada is a movie starring Anne Hathaway that was released in 2006. In the movie, Anne Hathaway plays a recent college graduate named Andrea who is trying to find a job in the world of journalism when she lands a spot at a fashion magazine as the assistant to the magazine's editor. This is despite the fact that Andrea has no interest in fashion or anything about the magazine. The movie follows as Andrea tries to balance her job and her personal life.

Gone Girl is a suspenseful movie that was released in 2014 and is based on a novel by the same name. In this movie, Nick and Amy seemed to have a perfect life until one day, Amy disappeared without a trace, leaving her husband Nick as one of the main suspects in her disappearance. The media coverage of the case leads the world to begin to question if Nick and Amy's life was truly as perfect as it had appeared on the surface.
Coraline
Coraline is an animated film that was released in 2009 and features Dakota Fanning as the voice of the main character, a girl named Coraline who recently moved with her family to a new house. Unfortunately for Coraline, her mother and father are both busy all the time and very distracted. In an attempt to entertain herself, Coraline explores the house and finds a strange door to another dimension where her Other Mother and Other Father are doting and attentive but not everything there is as it seems.
(500) Days of Summer
(500) Days of Summer is a romantic comedy that stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel as coworkers at a greeting card company. The two of them start a relationship but end up breaking up after some time and this film follows their relationship at different points from the beginning through the middle and eventually to when they chose to go their separate ways as Tom tries to figure out exactly what went wrong in his relationship with Summer during that time.
Crazy Rich Asians
Crazy Rich Asians is a romantic comedy that was released in 2018. This movie follows a woman named Rachel who is traveling to Singapore to attend the wedding of the best friend of her boyfriend, Nick. One thing that Nick forgot to tell Rachel before they left for their trip was the fact that Nick's family is pretty famous in Singapore meaning that their relationship definitely puts Rachel into the spotlight from the moment they arrive in Singapore for the wedding.
The Fault in Our Stars
The Fault in Our Stars is a movie that was released in 2014 and is based on the John Green novel by the same name. This movie follows a teen girl named Hazel Grace who regularly attends a support group for people her age who were diagnosed with cancer. There, she meets a boy named Augustus who lost a leg to bone cancer. The two of them bond over a book and go on a romantic trip to meet its author to ask about the dissatisfying ending.
Mean Girls
Mean Girls is a comedic high school movie that was released in 2004 and stars Lindsay Lohan as Cady Heron. Up until the start of the movie, Cady had lived with her parents in Africa where they were working as researchers. Cady quickly learns that life in high school is a lot different than her life with all the animals. After being befriended by the most popular girls in school, known as The Plastics, she struggles to keep from losing her own identity.
The Princess Diaries
The Princess Diaries is a movie that was released in 2011 that stars Anne Hathaway as Mia Thermopolis, a high school student who isn't exactly the most popular girl at her school. Which is fine by her because she has a group of friends that she loves! When her grandmother comes to town to visit, she learns some surprising news about her estranged father that changes her life forever. She learns she's set to take the throne in another country and has to learn to be a princess.
Bridesmaids
Bridesmaids is a comedic movie that was released in 2011 that follows a woman named Annie who is kind of struggling in her own life, both professionally and in her romantic and personal lives. But, when her long-time best friend gets engaged, Annie still agrees to be her maid of honor and help to plan her bridesmaid party, bridal shower, and other aspects of her wedding. Unfortunately, Annie finds herself not getting along with Lillian's other best friend and fellow bridesmaid, Helen.
Get Out
Get Out is a spooky movie that was released in 2017. In this movie, Chris and his girlfriend Rose have finally gotten serious enough that Rose has decided to take Chris home to meet her family. When they arrive at Rose's parents upstate home, Missy and Dean seem a little too eager to welcome Chris for the weekend, something that Chris assumes is their way of making up for the fact that they're nervously trying to make a good impression. As the weekend goes on, he realizes this is not the case.
La La Land
La La Land is a film that was released in 2016 that stars Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. The movie is set in Los Angeles where each of the main characters, Mia and Sebastian, are living and trying to chase their dreams. Mia is an aspiring actress who is struggling to jump start her life as a Hollywood actress while Sebastian is a jazz pianist who is struggling to get his music out there. The two of them meet and fall in love but their relationship comes with problems of its own.
Twilight
Twilight is the first in a series of movies that are all based on a novel series. Twilight follows a high school student named Bella Swan who moved from her home in Arizona to a small, rainy town in Washington called Forks. There, she meets and is instantly drawn to one of her classmates named Edward. As she gets to know Edward more and more and falls in love with him, she realizes that he's been hiding a strange secret.
Bring It On
Bring it on is a sports-based comedy that was released in 2000 that stars Kirsten Dunst as a cheerleading captain named Torrance. Although Torrance expects her year as being the captain of her cheer squad to go off flawlessly, one of the members getting injured puts that at jeopardy fairly quickly. After her replacement comes in the form of an unlikely new student, Torrance learns that the previous captain hadn't actually made up any of their cheers on her own!
Bohemian Rhapsody
Bohemian Rhapsody is a movie that was released in 2018 that stars Rami Malek as Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. The movie follows Freddie Mercury's life from before Queen was formed through their rise to stardom. It follows as Freddie Mecury tries to distance himself from the band in pursuit of a life as a solo artist before returning to the band for the historic Live Aid concert. This movie was nominated for several awards and went on to win four Oscars.

Her is a film that was released in 2013 that stars Joaquin Phoenix as a man who lives in the near future and works at a company that specializes in writing love letters for other people who find themselves unable to write these personal, romantic letters themselves. After his own relationship ends, he finds himself feeling lonely and he turns to a high-tech virtual assistant that he purchases and names Samantha. As he gets to know the AI, he begins to fall in love with her.
The Shape of Water
The Shape of Water is a science fiction film that was released in 2018 and is set in Baltimore in the 1960s. The main character of this film is a woman named Elisa who is rather isolated socially and works a solitary job as a cleaner at a high-security laboratory in the city in which she lives. Her ordinary life takes a change for the extraordinary one day while at work when she discovers a strange creature living in the lab.
Black Swan
Black Swan is a movie that was released in 2010 and stars Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis as two ballet dancers from the same ballet company. Natalie Portman plays Nina while Mila Kunis plays Lily. Nina is shown to be a more serious and rigid dancer, the complete opposite of newcomer Lily's carefree nature. When the ballet company announces plans to perform Swan Lake, Nina and Lily become rivals after being cast as the White Swan and Black Swan, respectively.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is an animated superhero movie that was released in 2018. Unlike many other superhero movies that follow a single superhero or several different ones, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a movie that features several different versions of Spider-Man, including some like Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, SP//dr, Spider-Ham, and Spider-Man Noir. The movie follows as all of these different iterations of Spider-Man have to come together to battle a villain and save each of their own realities from this danger.

The Proposal is a romantic comedy that was released in 2009 and stars Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock as Andrew and Margaret. Margaret is an editor at a publishing company, known for her strict attitude, and Andrew is her assistant. When Margaret is faced with potentially being forced to move back to her home country of Canada, she convinces Andrew to marry her so she doesn't have to. He agrees but under one condition: she accompanies him to Alaska to meet his family.
27 Dresses
27 Dresses is a movie that was released in 2008 that stars Katherine Heigl as a woman named Jane. Jane always puts her friends' needs and wants ahead of her own, something that has landed her in 27 weddings as a bridesmaid. When her younger sister announces that she's engaged to the man that Jane is in love with, Jane finally has to start to consider whether or not it's worth it to always make everyone else happy at the expense of her own feelings.

The Age of Adaline is a movie that was released in 2015 that stars Blake Lively. In the movie, Blake Lively plays a woman named Adaline who has been 29 years old for nearly eight decades. Her eternal youth came after a strange accident and is a secret that she's been careful to keep her entire life. In order to keep this secret, Adaline has been sure not to get too close to anyone in her life. When she falls in love, her secret becomes harder to keep.

Wonder Woman is a superhero film that was released in 2017 that stars Gal Gadot as the titular superhero Wonder Woman. The movie starts before she became Wonder Woman when she was still Diana, a woman living on a sheltered island who was training to become a powerful warrior who would battle to protect her people. After she meets a pilot who tells her about the outside world, Diana decides to use her power to try to save the world.
Easy A
Easy A is a movie that was released in 2010 that stars Emma Stone as Olive, a high school student who has a pretty clean-cut reputation around her school before the movie starts. When a rumor starts to be spread about Olive, she takes a cue from one of her school assignments and decides that instead of arguing with the rumor, she's going to let people believe it's true and use it to her advantage. Unfortunately, her reputation takes some major blows along the way.
Mamma Mia!
Mamma Mia! is a movie that was released in 2008 that stars Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried as Donna and Sophie, a mother and daughter that live and run a hotel on an island in Greece. While Sophie is planning her wedding, she dreams of her estranged father being there. She goes through he mother's old diaries and narrows the prospects down to a few men mentioned in them. She invites each of them to the wedding, hoping that she'll be able to tell who her dad is.
The Boy
The Boy is a super spooky movie that was released in 2016. In this movie, Lauren Cohan plays a woman named Greta who moves abroad in order to take a job as a nanny for a wealthy family. She's told that, while she's working or them, she will be caring for the family's young son. After she arrives, Greta learns that their son is actually a life-size doll and not a child at all. When strange things begin happening in the home, Greta suspects it might be the doll.
Love, Rosie
Love, Rosie is a movie that was released in 2014 that stars Lily Collins and Sam Claflin as Rosie and Alex, two best friends. In the movie, Alex has had a crush on Rosie for a long time and after confessing it to her one night while at a party, Alex assumes that Rosie doesn't return his feelings. Some time after, Alex moves with his family out of the country and the two of them are torn apart. The movie follows them over the years as they try to stay close.

The movie stars Cara Delevingne and Nat Wolff as Margo and Quentin, classmates from the same high school. Quentin is shy and quiet while Margo is one of the most popular girls in their school. When Margo comes to Quentin to ask him for help pulling a prank on someone, he agrees and has no idea that it will send him on a mysterious journey.

The Blind Side is a movie that was released in 2009 and is based on the real life story of football player Michael Oher. This movie stars Sandra Bullock as Leigh Anne Tuohy and Tim McGraw as her husband, Sean. Leigh Anne and Sean take in a homeless teen named Michael in order to give him a better life and keep him safe and off the streets. Not only does this change completely change the life of Michael but it changes the lives of the Tuohy family as well.

A Quiet Place is a spooky movie that was released in 2018 that stars John Krasinski and his real-life wife, Emily Blunt. In this movie, the two of them play the parents of a family that live in a post-apocalyptic world in which monsters roam the Earth. These monsters have an extraordinary sense of hearing, meaning that any little sound will draw them in and mean big danger for the people living in this world. Although this family has mostly adapted to this, it's still pretty spooky outside.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a science fiction movie that was released in 2004. This movie stars Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet as Joel and Clementine, two people who met and fell in love but unfortunately, chose to call it quits on their relationship. After Joel learns that Clementine went to a clinic that specializes in deleting memories to remove him from her mind, Joel chooses to go through with the same procedure in order to erase the memory of her.
13 Going on 30
When they're young, there are many people that want to grow up and be adults instead of being young and having to deal with things like school and the pressures of being a teenager. In this romantic comedy, Jenna makes a wish on her 13th birthday after her party doesn't go as planned. When she wakes up the next morning, she finds that her wish came true and she's suddenly her 30-year-old self. Unfortunately, things aren't as great as she had hoped they'd be.

The DUFF is a teen comedy that was released in 2015. The main character of this film is a high school student named Bianca who isn't exactly popular herself but she has quite a few friends at school who are much more popular than she is. One day, she learns that her friends hang out with her because they consider her to be less popular and cool than she is, making them look better. Bianca then sets out to reinvent her image and prove them wrong.

That Awkward Moment is a comedic movie that stars Zac Efron and Miles Teller as Jason and Daniel, two best friends who are excited to hear that their third best friend, Mikey who is played by Michael B. Jordan, is newly single and has plenty of time to hang out with them again. The three of them make a pact not to get into a relationship again but unfortunately, as each of them fall in love, keeping this promise and hiding their relationships gets difficult.

When the makeover goes too well and Tai ends up more popular than Cher, Cher rethinks her priorities.
