Musical movies are known for making us feel good because we are able to find comfort and joy in the lyrics of a lot of our favorite songs! One of the coolest things about musical movies is the fact that we are able to see some of our favorite actors and actresses branch out from regular acting... we are able to see them sing and dance too!
A big example of this is Reese Witherspoon. We know her from movies like Legally Blonde, Sweet Home Alabama, This Means War, and Just like Heaven. Then she appears in the movie Walk the Line and we are able to see her and admire her in a whole new light! She sings in that movie and it is awesome to witness. For her work in Walk the Line, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress, Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Actress, and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role! Other actresses and actors have done the same exact thing as Reese!

Enchanted?
This movie is what reminds us that true love exists... and not just in fairytales! Amy Adams is the leading actress in this movie and with her bright red hair and winning smile, she does a great job playing the role of a princess. The coolest thing about this movie is that it starts off in animated form, and it looks like it is about to be a cartoon-like all of the other princess movies. But it doesn’t stay that way.
Mary Poppins Returns?
This movie is called Mary Poppins returns and it stars a lovely actress named Emily Blunt who is married to John Krasinski! John Krasinski is the handsome actor who played Jim Halpert on the show The Office with Steve Carell! This movie is filled with a lot of great music and brings viewers a sense of happiness and laughter! This is one of those musical movies that is sure to make a lot of people smile with satisfaction at the songs.
La La Land?
Here is another great musical movie that is extremely sad and extremely emotional. It stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in the leading roles and they spend the movie dancing with each other and singing songs to each other… If the movie only focused on the dancing in the songs, it probably would not be so sad! But the movie also focuses on both of their attempts to become successful in the Hollywood industry and how it tears them apart.
Mamma Mia?
This movie is called Mamma Mia! It is a great movie that ends up getting a sequel, later on down the line. It stars Amanda Seyfried and Meryl Streep in the leading roles. Amanda’s character is in pursuit of trying to find the identity of her true dad before her wedding day! There are three men who could potential he be her dad and she has to figure out which one is the right one so that she can feel complete on her wedding day.
The Greatest Showman?
According to Wikipedia, "The Greatest Showman is a 2017 musical film directed by Michael Gracey in his directorial debut, written by Jenny Bicks and Bill Condon and starring Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya. The film is inspired by the story of P. T. Barnum's creation of the Barnum & Bailey Circus and the lives of its star attractions. Principal filming began in New York City in November 2016." Rent?
Rent is an emotional movie with so many good songs included. it stars Rosario Dawson in the leading role as well as a group of other actors who really help the story completely come to life in the best ways possible. The movie is kind of sad because it tells the story of sickness, love lost, and other hardships in the city of New York. The city of New York is such a beautiful place and this movie shows that.
Moulin Rouge?
This movie should definitely go down in history as being one of the best musical movies ever. It is all about a couple who fall in love even though it seems as though they might not be right for each other. She works in a profession that is not good or healthy for her in terms of her body or her mind. He falls in love with her and wants to save her from her lifestyle and show her what true love is.
A Star Is Born?
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper star in this movie together. Lady Gaga once said, "The only big things I've purchased are my dad's heart valve and a Rolls-Royce for my parents, for their anniversary. And that was only because my dad had a Lady Gaga license plate on our old car and it was making me crazy because he was getting followed everywhere, so I bought him a new car." (Brainy Quotes). It is cool to see how she reacted to her own success!
The Lion King?
This is a Disney movie called The Lion King! It is filled with so many amazing songs, that the list seems to go on forever. A lot of the music from this movie is remembered for being so catchy and so heartfelt. In this scene pictured here, the monkey is raising the little lion cub into the sky to show that he will be the next king! The song that is played during this moment is a beautiful song to sing.
High School Musica?
High School Musical is the first movie of its franchise and boy, did it blow everyone away! The generations who grew up watching this movie and it’s awesome sequels definitely appreciated how much time and effort was placed upon creating awesome dance scenes and music lyrics. The lyrics of the songs from this movie are really catchy and fun! Some of the songs from this movie are still memorable to this day, even though so many long years have passed by.
Dreamgirls?
There is a reason this musical movie was so popular and that reason goes by the name of Beyoncé! She sings her little heart out in this movie and she blows everyone away as she does it! Jennifer Hudson is another super strong vocalist who is part of this movie! The two of them really made an impact on the storyline because of their powerful singing voices. They added so much more depth to the songs that they were singing.
Les Misérables?
This movie is very emotional and very sad. It definitely tugs on the heartstrings of the viewers who take the time to watch it. A lot of the music from this movie is sort of dark and depressing because of the hardships that the characters from the story are going through. Anne Hathaway is one of the main characters from this movie and she does a great job singing one of the most difficult songs to sing from the film.
Chicago?
Chicago is an epic musical movie that stars Catherine Zeta-Jones in one of the leading roles! This movie is all about two women who get in trouble with the law and try to fight back in order to make it big on stage in Broadway! They will literally do whatever it takes in order to make it to a place of success where they feel good about themselves again in their lives. This is a very interesting musical movie to watch.
Moana?
Who does not love a beautiful movie like a Moana? This Disney movie is such a great film with such awesome songs to sing along too for everyone! This is not a movie that is just meant for kids. Even grownups love the movie too… As well as teenagers and young adults. That is because the movie comes with a really sweet message about fighting for what is right, protecting one’s family, and following one’s heart, even when it’s hard.
High School Musical 2?
High School Musical 2 is the second movie from his franchise! It really did a great job continuing the story of some of our favorite high school students who have a knack for singing and dancing! This story follows Gabriella and Troy as they struggle to maintain a relationship during a hard summer working their very first jobs as teenagers. They end up figuring out how to make each other happy by the end of the movie. Pick or pass.
8 Mile?
According to Wikipedia, "8 Mile is a 2002 biographical drama film written by Scott Silver, directed by Curtis Hanson, and starring Eminem, Mekhi Phifer, Brittany Murphy, Michael Shannon, and Kim Basinger. The film is based loosely on Eminem's actual upbringing and follows white rapper B-Rabbit and his attempt to make it. The title is derived from 8 Mile Road, the highway between the predominantly black city of Detroit and Wayne County and the predominantly White Oakland County." Pick or pass.
Frozen?
Frozen is another amazing movie that came to us from Disney! It revolves around a princess named Elsa who struggles to control her powers with snow and ice as a child. When she gets older, she realizes that the struggle she faced to control her powers is what got in the way of her relationship with her little sister. She does what it takes to rebuild the relationship with her sister and to show her sister that she truly does care about her.
Grease?
When it comes to musical movies, this movie is definitely one of the biggest movies ever! Grease has gone down in history for being so excellent. It is about two teenagers who meet each other and fall in love during a summer spent on a sunny beach. When school starts up in the fall, they bump into each other again and see that they’re in much different social circles from each other. This poses as an issue at the beginning…
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again?
This musical sequel is the best! "In 1979 young Donna, Tanya and Rosie graduate from Oxford University -- leaving Donna free to embark on a series of adventures throughout Europe. The Little Mermaid?
The Little Mermaid is another Disney movie that is not just meant for little kids! It is definitely meant for people of all ages because it is a story about true love, beautiful music, and following one’s heart. Ariel is the mermaid who leads the way of the storyline and she falls in love with a prince named Eric who lives on land. She burners a deal in order to get legs so that she can meet Eric on land.
Into the Woods?
This musical movie is really great. "As the result of the curse of a once-beautiful witch, a baker and his wife are childless. Three days before the rise of a blue moon, they venture into the forest to find the ingredients that will reverse the spell and restore the witch's beauty: a milk-white cow, hair as yellow as corn, a red cape, and a slipper of gold. The Sound of Music is a beautiful musical movie that is still popular today and 2019 even though it was released so many years ago. Julie Andrews is the star of this movie and she does a great job singing a lot of the songs from the film. She doesn’t do all of the singing alone though… There is a group of kids in the movie who play siblings and they do a lot of the singing too! Pick or pass.
Tangled?
This Disney movie is called Tangled and it is filled with a lot of great songs! Tangled tells the story of Rapunzel, one of the coolest princesses from Disney. She has long, magical, blonde hair and she is kept locked away in a tower because of the strength and power that is found in the locks of her hair. She ends up making her great escape in order to follow her heart and find love when she reaches her teenage years. Pick or pass.

Disney always does a great job releasing awesome movies with great music in them. Mulan is no exception! Mulan is a Disney princess who sacrifices her own life in order to protect the life of her dad. She does what she asked to do to avoid him having to go to war because she knows that he would not survive since he is so old. She ends up being brave, chopping off her own hair, and fighting in his place.
Walk the Line?
This musical movie is one of the best. "The rise of country music legend Johnny Cash begins with his days as a boy growing up on the family farm, where he struggles under the scorn of his dad. As the years pass, Cash ends up in Memphis, Tenn., with his wife, Vivian, and breaks into the music scene after finding his trademark sound. Jack Black is the leading actor from this movie He said, "Back in the '70s, like one of my favorite movies ever was 'The Bad News Bears', and that was a kids' movie, but I don't think of it that way. I think of it as just a great movie because Walter Matthau was so funny and so harsh with those kids." (Brainy Quote). It is awesome to hear about where he gets some of his great acting inspiration from!
Straight Outta Compton?

This musical movie is the third and final movie of its franchise! It still showcases Gabriella, Troy, and the rest of the team as they sing their hearts out to some of the catchiest songs ever! The main focus of this movie is the fact that this group of teenagers that we know and love so well are on the road to graduation. They are spending time figuring out where to go to college as they pursue dreams for the future.
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street?
Ever seen this flick? "Judge Turpin wants the beautiful wife of a London barber and transports him to Australia for a crime he did not commit. Aladdin is another great Disney movie filled with awesome songs. The coolest thing about Aladdin in this year is that they are about to release a live action version of this movie which is very exciting! A lot of people are very excited to see it and hope that the live action version of the movie holds true to what the cartoon version of the movie was like. Across the Universe?
Across the Universe is an epic musical movie that is all about songs that belong to a very popular band in history. That band is called the Beatles. Everyone absolutely loved and adored the Beatles while they were together as a group making music for the world. Their music promoted a message of peace and love which is why they were so popular. This movie definitely supports and promotes the same views that the Beatles had as a music group.
