Pick Or Pass On These Harry Potter Characters And Get A Hogwarts House

Calling all witches and wizards! This is a quiz that's going to replace the sorting hat. Okay, not really. We all love the sorting hat too much to see it go. After all, it's our most loved character! Or at least the character that we've all dreamed about interacting with. Reading the Harry Potter books when we were kids (and even still, re-reading them as adults) opens our minds to the world of magic and mystery; good and bad, battling it out using sticks and potions. We love the way that the Harry Potter film series has given us a belief in magic and love, as well as friendship, perseverance, and working together.

Come to think of it, magic isn't necessarily the best part of Harry Potter. The best part is the camaraderie. Part of that camaraderie is the way that the sorting hat, our favorite character, separates the kids into different houses when they first get to Hogwarts. We've decided to take it into our real, non-magic world. Pick or pass on these Harry Potter characters and we believe that we'll be able to figure out who belongs in which house. While it might not be sorting hat level accurate, it certainly is an end to the Hogwarts House mystery!

Question 1

Ron Weasley

Poor Ron Weasley; it seems like everyone either loves him or dislikes him. While many of us grew up as big fans of Ron's haplessness, as we've gotten older we realize that he really wasn't always the pure, innocent soul that we thought he was. A little lazy and a little jealous, Ron Weasley certainly had his moments growing up. But hey, didn't we all? Maybe that just makes him all the more lovable and relatable to those of us reading.

Question 2

Cho Chang

Cho Chang was around throughout the Harry Potter series, but we really remember her coming to the forefront of the story after book four and at the beginning of book five. If we remember correctly, book five was when (spoiler alert!) Harry Potter and Cho Chang finally locked lips underneath the room of requirement's convenient mistletoe. Dumbledore's Army brought them together, and, while it didn't go anywhere, they did make a super cute magical couple while it was a thing.

Question 3

Luna Lovegood

Those who make fun of Luna have no place in our lives. This incredibly powerful wizard is one of the most unique ones at Hogwarts. While she did end up being on the receiving end of a lot of teasing and making fun, she always held her own and stood by her beliefs. We're big fans of Luna Lovegood, and think that she's one of the most underrated heroes of the book series. Needless to say, we totally believed in Nargles thanks to Luna.

Question 4

Hermione Granger

Harry Potter might be the chosen one, but Hermione Granger is our chosen witch. Some characters might get stuck on the idea that she's a "mudblood", a magical slur which is not okay no matter which way we slice it, but anyone who's read the books knows that this is one of the most powerful magic users in the world. After all, she took almost double the course load thanks to her time turner. How many "pure" wizards can boast that they did that, huh?

Question 5

Minerva McGonagall

Minerva McGonagall, also known as Professor McGonagall, is like the kindly grandma everyone is a little afraid of. She doesn't put up with excuses, slacking, or any kind of fooling around. However, she knows when to show her displeasure when things aren't right. Everyone remembers her various interactions with Professor Umbridge, right? Not to mention the fact that McGonagall regularly turns into a cat. Adorable, but also very convenient for spying on students and other folks. We're impressed by her and her powers!

Question 6

Viktor Krum

AKA Hermione's date at the Yule Ball, Viktor Krum was only in the Triwizard Tournament portion of book four (though there are some whispers about his ties into the Fantastic Beasts franchise, as well as a mention of his name once or twice before he actually appeared). This guy is the strong but silent type, and Hermione regularly expressed her displeasure at how he wasn't necessarily the brightest bulb in the lamp store. He was a pretty prolific quidditch player, though!

Question 7

Severus Snape

No matter how we feel about Snape, there's no denying that he was on Harry Potter's side at the end of his character arc. While he didn't survive to the end of the series (but c'mon, most of the characters didn't, thanks to that big end-of-the-series battle) he did the best he could while he was around. He and Albus Dumbledore were in it together, even if there was a moment in the books where it seemed like he wasn't. And if that's not enough reason to support Snape, we don't know what is.

Question 8

Albus Dumbledore

Speaking of Dumbledore, how could anyone not love this elderly wizard? His magical powers are second to none, and he's got more than enough history to write a seven volume book series on just his life alone. While we don't know the full story behind Albus Dumbledore, the Fantastic Beasts series is starting to shed some more light onto this powerful wizard's life before, and during, his Hogwarts days. We love Dumbledore, and love how he stood up for Harry when he didn't have anyone else.

Question 9

Sybill Trelawney

Seeing the future is a talent some of us might think we have, but we'll never be on the same level as Sybill Trelawney. Professor Trelawney is one of the most powerful divinators in the Harry Potter universe. Case in point, Harry Potter's chosen one prophecy which is revealed to him in the latter half of the series (Pottermore). We think that Trelawney is an underrated professor, but we also know that divination isn't necessarily everyone's cup of tea leaves.

Question 10

Remus Lupin

We all remember Remus Lupin, right? This guy was a member of the Order of the Phoenix, as well one of the short lived Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers (Pottermore). Not only that, but he also basically had werewolf powers, despite the fact that he avoided calling them that. With a last name like Lupin, though, it's hard to avoid bringing the W word, werewolf, into the discussion. A powerful man, we were all sad when we realized he wouldn't be hanging around anymore.

Question 11

Cedric Diggory

Robert Pattinson might have played him in the movies, but Cedric Diggory will always live on in our minds as one of the more powerful wizards of the series. Boyfriend to Cho Chang, Diggory was unfortunately ended by He Who Must Not Be Named in the fourth book. Harry and Cedric both grabbed the cup, transporting them right into the hands of Voldemort. He passed away, despite co-winning the Triwizard Tournament with his friend, Harry Potter. It's sad; we would have loved more from this Hufflepuff. (Pottermore)

Question 12

Draco Malfoy

Draco Malfoy is kind of a snake, but at least he can't go through with ending Dumbledore, despite what Voldemort and Malfoy's dad want him to do. He spends most of the series making it his task to take down Harry Potter and friends, which is sad when we think about it. He's giving all the Slytherins bad raps, especially when Umbridge comes in and decides to make them the unofficial leaders of the hallways. Luckily he doesn't make life difficult for Harry Potter in the end!

Question 13

Dolores Umbridge

This pink lady is the stuff that nightmares are made of, and anyone who's read the books will attest to that. Not only does she feature a full-pink ensemble (and office), she's got some pretty backwards views on how to run a school. Not only does everything become banned, but she also ends up offering no practical Defense Against the Dark Arts training. Instead of practicing casting spells they just start reading books. As any good wizard knows, doing does more than reading.

Question 14

Dobby

One of our favorite characters, Dobby is the character who's most often referenced when it comes to the sweet side characters of Harry Potter. How many times have we seen people dressing up their hairless cats or babies as Dobby for Halloween, right? It's a popular costume, and one that we absolutely love. Hermione fought endlessly for the freedom of the house elves, and Dobby is forever grateful. After all, he has more hats than he could ever use now!

Question 15

Ginny Weasley

Ron's sister and Molly Weasley's daughter, Ginny was always hanging around with the Ron, Harry, and Hermione group. With a whole lot of love for Harry Potter, it's no surprise that they started getting together in the later books. While it might have freaked Ron out at first, it's nice that Harry finally got to become Ron's actual, legal brother. He was always kind of part of the family anyway. Now it's official! Plus, Ginny is an excellent, intelligent woman.

Question 16

Sirius Black

Sirius Black is one of Harry Potter's favorite people, as he's one of the only family members Harry had for a while. The Weasleys are all well and good, but they're not the same as actual family. They're still better than the Dursleys, though, but that's not hard; anything is better than the Dursleys. It's sad to see what happens to Sirius Black in the books and movies, but that's okay; Harry Potter wasn't necessarily meant for happiness, if his character development tells us anything.

Question 17

Neville Longbottom

Neville Longbottom has grown up to become one of the most underrated actors, in our opinion. The actor's performances are stunning, and this character really gave him the chance to shine and hone his powers. A good blend of bold bravery and careful, nervous decision making, Neville Longbottom is the unsung hero of the story. He was almost the chosen one, if the prophecy is believed to be true. All he needed was a little bit of confidence and training to be able to hone his powers.

Question 18

Fleur Delacour

We only really meet Fleur in book four, during the Triwizard Tournament. This character is a sweetheart, but ruthlessly competitive. She appeared as one of the women from the all girls wizarding school, and looks amazing in blue. She also has a huge heart, as she cares about her sister so much. Ron was also wild about her, even though she clearly had the motivation and drive that far overpowered his. Honestly, we think he and Hermione work better together anyway.

Question 19

Argus Filch

Filch isn't our favorite character, but no doubt he's someone's. There's got to be some sort of redeeming quality about this nosy groundskeeper, right? Maybe it's his love of animals, and the way that he takes care of his cat. Maybe it's the way he clearly loves Umbridge. No, that's not it. Anyone who helped Umbridge totally lost our favor, but that's just because of the fact that she didn't necessarily make herself likable; not even with that sing-song voice.

Question 20

Cornelius Fudge

Cornelius Fudge was the Minister of Magic for six years, and what a wild six years those were (Harry Potter Fandom Wiki). He wasn't the most honest minister, but we learned eventually that that might have just been the fact that he really didn't want to admit what was happening because he was nervous. At least, that's how we read his character development. It might have been different, but we're seeing it as a choice driven out of nerves than any sort of malicious intention.

Question 21

Lucius Malfoy

Lucious Malfoy is, unsurprisingly, Draco's dad. He's one of Voldemort's followers, and hides that fact by wearing long black sleeves all the time. He's totally corrupt, at least in our opinion. The actor does a great job of portraying him in the movies, though we find him a little more ruthless in the books. Maybe that's just the way we picture him in our head, but his motivations are almost never innocent. He's definitely not the positive, keen character present in other parts of the book series.

Question 22

Voldemort

What do we say about He Who Must Not Be Named? How about every bad word in the book! Voldemort is not a great person. In fact, he's removed so much of his soul we're not sure he even counts as a person anymore. How unsettling is that, right? It's Voldemort's mission in life to end Harry Potter, the chosen one, before Harry Potter ends him. Spoiler alert: the battle goes ahead and at the end...no, we can't reveal it. It's too powerful.

Question 23

Lavender Brown

In the same way that Harry Potter had Cho Chang before getting together with Ginny Weasley, Ron ended up having Lavender Brown. She was a huge fan of Ron Weasley, though Hermione wasn't exactly the biggest fan. Funny that, right? It's almost like the two of them were in love long before they actually got together! Of course, that's all due to the hindsight. At the time we just saw Lavender Brown as a sweet, innocent girl who was head over heels for Ron.

Question 24

Hedwig

It wouldn't be a Harry Potter character quiz without one of the most beloved characters in Harry Potter. The series features a convention that owls deliver messages to the witches and wizards of Hogwarts. Every student gets a pet familiar when they enter Hogwarts, and Harry chose a snowy owl by the name of Hedwig. Hedwig goes and delivers news to and from Harry Potter, as well as acting as an emotional support animal sometimes. Hard working and loving, Hedwig was totally a star character.

Question 25

Nymphadora Tonks

Full disclosure: we wanted to be Nymphadora Tonks when we were kids. The way that she could change her hair into a different color at the drop of a hat, and even change other aspects of her appearance; the talent of appearance changing was so tempting to us as kids. We loved to play pretend and to change our look. This character gave us the inspiration to do that, and to feel confident in looking however we want to look.

Question 26

The Sorting Hat

Remember when we talked about the good old hat in the intro? We just had to add it onto the list as well, as we're sure that others no doubt feel just has happy about the Sorting Hat as we do. The Sorting Hat is kind of our first introduction to the way that Hogwarts worked. Magical mind reading powers (and not to mention that raspy old voice) taught us that everyone has corners of the mind that we don't want to go in.

Question 27

Bellatrix Lestrange

Need we explain the powers of Bellatrix Lestrange? Totally committing herself to the Dark Lord, AKA He Who Must Not Be Named, AKA Voldemort, Lestrange has powers that are totally wild. She isn't necessarily the most powerful magic user out there, but she is one of the most compelling ones. She's not worried about using those unforgivable spells, and even gets people to do her own bidding for her too. Honestly, we think she would be a super fun character to play; even if she is totally bad in the book.

Question 28

Seamus Finnigan

Adorable Seamus didn't seem to get much time in the book or movie series, but he was definitely around. With a few impassioned speeches, we definitely know who Seamus is. Seamus had a muggle dad, but that didn't stop him from becoming an absolutely incredible quidditch player. The other thing he's known for in the series? Pyrotechnics and his powers of blowing stuff up (Harry Potter Fandom Wikia). He fought bravely in the big battle, and we definitely got a little attached to him.

Question 29

Madam Hooch

Madam Hooch, AKA Rolanda Hooch, is one of the professors at Hogwarts. She doesn't get much of a starring moment, but she does get enough screen and page time for us to know who she is. She was around at Hogwarts for ages, and worked as the flying instructor and quidditch coach (Harry Potter Fandom Wikia). She was even around during the great Umbridge takeover, though we don't exactly remember if she got to stay on staff; we probably blocked it out.

Question 30

Fred and George Weasley

We couldn't separate the twins. Nothing can separate the twins, except (spoiler alert) the end of the great battle. But we won't dwell on that sad time. The beautiful thing about Fred and George is that they truly complete each other. Finishing each other's sentences, spells, and wacky ideas, they're both each other's greatest challengers and greatest supports. It's arguably the most pure and lovely relationship in the whole series. Yes, even more than Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley! We love these two wacky redheads.

Question 31

Rubeus Hagrid

We take back what we said before; Hagrid just might be the best character in the story, and his character arc is something that's undeniably interesting. From helping every little animal to hiding his brother in the forbidden forest, Hagrid seems to have a taken his role as Harry Potter support system very seriously. They help each other, with Hagrid leaning on Harry and his friends for support in times of need too. He's a great guy, and we love Hagrid dearly even now.

Question 32

Arthur Weasley

Arthur Weasley is the dad of the Weasley family, and worked for the Ministry of Magic for a very long time. While he was always against Cornelius Fudge, it was hard to stand up to him at some points. After all, Weasley still had all those kids to support. While we don't remember the exact number, there was definitely at least 7. And Harry Potter, who became a de-facto member of the Weasley family. He's a good guy, without a doubt.

Question 33

Filius Flitwick

Flitwick is the Charms professor, as well as the head of the Ravenclaw house (Harry Potter Fandom Wikia). Flitwick is an interesting character, as he doesn't seem to change much throughout the story. He's always been brave, bold, and proud. He's adamantly against the bad wizards of the world, like Voldemort and Umbridge. He also is determined to teach students the beauty of Charms. That's an admirable character to include in the story, and proves that teaching really is an innate calling.

Question 34

Firenze

This centaur eventually became the Divination teacher at Hogwarts when Umbridge fired professor Trelawney, much to Umbridge's chagrin. He's a powerful, strong character, and one who believes that Harry Potter has deep, deep powers. While his centaur friends did disown him for going and working for Dumbledore, he knew what he was doing. This teaching position was much more important to the world of Hogwarts and magic than keeping the Forbidden Forest safe; especially with Umbridge walking the halls and banning everything.

Question 35

Narcissa Malfoy

Finally we're closing our list with one of the lesser known characters of the Harry Potter universe. Those that know Harry Potter will certainly know Narcissa Malfoy, as she's appeared a handful of times. Narcissa is Draco's mother, though we wouldn't necessarily call her a mothering lady. She's very well put together and carefully in control. She and her husband make a startling pair, and Draco is the spitting image of both of them. She's truly a smaller character that people have large opinions on.
