It should come as no surprise to anyone that different generations often enjoy different forms of entertainment, and while there certainly is some crossover, the likelihood that the older generation will be able to name as many modern TV shows as the younger generation is very low! We wanted to put together a quiz that would test both old and young to prove that they still know what is going on in the world of television, so that's exactly what we did.
What we've put together is a quiz that takes a look at some of the greatest shows on television, the stuff that really pushes the medium further and offers us some of the best entertainment out there at the moment. We want the adults to see if they can prove that they still know what is going on when it comes to TV, and for the younger lot to show that they're keeping up with the trends that they should definitely have their eyes on!

For the people out there who think that things just aren't the way they used to be, that there is a significant problem with the way that people act when compared to the world that once existed, this is the show that really helps them prove that. Yes, this show follows a group of men that are genuinely difficult to like, and while some people out there seem to want to get the same sort of life that they have on the screen, we think that every single one of the characters is quite possibly the most unpleasant people that have ever appeared on TV.

This is another show that never got the audience that we think it deserved, while also containing actors that would go onto work heavily within the world of showbiz. This is the sort of thing that has the weird humor that will attract the real comedy fans, while also offering enough of an insight into what it can be like to work a standard job in a world that doesn't seem to care too much. A lot of people who watched this will know exactly how that sort of thing can feel, and we imagine the show gave them some solace!

When we look at the world that we're currently living in, it definitely makes shows like this a lot more interesting, as it takes a look at a time that actually went on in the history of the US. There are a lot of different periods in the history of the country that haven't yet been properly explored, and we're surprised this was the first time that somebody really went into a part of US history that is filled with various examples of dramatic tension, things that actually went on which a modern audience would find entertaining on the small screen!

SNL alum Tina Fey decided that she wanted to have her own show and that she would star in it, giving her more of a choice in the sort of thing that was being said and done on the screen. Taking aim at issues that Fey believes should be tackled in the modern world, this was the first show that really put her on the map, and since then she has gone on to write so much more. She continues to appear on SNL from time to time, has written a book, and is constantly writing new shows as well!

There's a lot to be said for comedy that allows women to be quirky but relatable, and while a lot of people did end up finding the main character of this show a little annoying towards the later series, there's no denying that she was unlike a lot of other people on the TV at the time, or for a long time. The fact that she was surrounded by male characters that were also flawed and interesting just added to the interest and high ratings that this show managed to create, and it's still worth a look to this day!

There are so many people out there that have to spend their entire life working a standard job, and this animation follows a family that all work in a burger joint together. However, we can only assume that most people don't end up having the life that this family does, as they're forced into a series of absurd situations, usually down to the fact that the children of the family are very willing to get themselves into some weird situations. That being said, it's not like the adults are never at fault for letting themselves get carried away from time to time either!

There are a lot of television comedies out there, but we think it's fair to say that this is a one of a kind show, the one that gained cult status so quickly and that people still go back to watch to this day! Not only did it start off life for many different actors that appeared on the show, but it shows us all that there is something to be said for odd comedy, the sort of thing that hasn't really been done before and that makes us laugh in a way that is unusual when surrounded by so much generic comedy.

We're glad we live in a world where cartoons are no longer seen as something that only children should enjoy, as there is a lot that writers can get away with when it comes to animation that live action just can't do. Shows like this may center mainly around animal characters, but that doesn't change the fact that it tackles topics and themes that we all struggle with as human beings, and we can only hope that it continues to make us laugh and cry for a very long time, without ever compromising the story it wants to tell us.

After her first show was a smash hit, everybody wanted to see what Tina Fey had next up her sleeve, and thankfully none of us were disappointed. While she has appeared in the show a handful of times as different characters, she chose to let other actors step forward and take the limelight this time. It tells the story of a young woman who was taken as a child and has spent most of her life underground, away from society. We know that doesn't sound too funny, but we can assure everyone that it is a great piece of work.

We think that everyone can agree there are way too many shows about doctors on the TV, so when this first came out, it was a breath of fresh air. Sadly, it didn't continue with the same level of quality and by the last season, most of the fans that it had managed to pick up during its first three seasons had walked, not wanting to get involved with a show that was completely different to what it once was. For those people who miss the days of the first few seasons, we can always go back for a few laughs!

While we may live in a world that is absolutely filled with superhero movies and shows, we rarely get to see the lives of characters that have been turned back into normal people, the ones who have to hang up the cape and go back to be a normal human being, piecing their lives back to what it once was. Honestly, we think it's interesting, and we would like to see it happen more often. This sort of thing can obviously work for a drama but it's also obviously worthy of a comedy style movie or TV show as well.

If there's one thing we enjoy seeing on television, it's a group of writers that want to show the rest of us what goes on at the top, what sort of dealings people are getting into in front of our very eyes, but in ways that ensure we don't ever get the full picture. Believe it or not, but the actions and events seen in this show are loosely based on reality. While writers will always tend to take liberties with the source material in an attempt to make the show more entertaining for those watching, even loosely based on reality this show is crazy!

While we all know that there are a lot of movies and TV shows out there now that consider themselves post-apocalyptic, we think this is easily the best show that we've seen which concerns itself with a post-apocalyptic style event, in which a giant number of people just suddenly disappear without a trace from the world. Obviously, this isn't enough to end the human race and end what we know of as Earth, but it has a cataclysmic effect on the people that inhabit this world, which is exactly what this show explores through a few seasons, before ending satisfyingly.

One of the greatest things about comedy is that it has managed to hit out in some very surreal and absurd ways over the years, doing the sort of things that people couldn't get away with in other forms of entertainment. The dark humor in this show comes from the concept of a woman that ends up with a rather odd urge, an urge that her family indulges at first before quickly realizing that they can't just keep doing this, no matter how much they may love their family. Yes, believe it or not but this is a comedy we're talking about.

We were really disappointed with this show, as it was a chance to make something truly unique. Whenever somebody decides to take the characters and narrative from a fairly standard story, the sort that has little issue with keeping things plain so that people of all ages can watch or read it, and change things up we get excited. However, the chance to turn this old story into something much darker, something that represents the way the modern world is different to what it once was, was used up on what is essentially the most generic show we have seen in a long time.

This show really did come out of nowhere, taking on a couple of actors that we would've never seen as being a part of a serious drama like this, and proving that both of them have what it takes to be remembered as two of the greatest actors of our time. Sadly, the next season didn't live up to the brilliant foundation that had been put down by the first, and everybody quickly lost interest in what has become a difficult to understand mess, rather than a thrilling journey that follows two men as they try to unravel a mystery.

We felt like there were already too many shows about cops on TV, that there was no chance there would be one that could come along and change that, and yet this show came along and did just that! Yes, anybody that has watched this show knows that it is unlike any other TV show about police officers ever, that it takes an absurd look at what the world of a police officer may be like, with a cast of characters that are genuinely interesting and make the audience want to cheer for them, no matter what mistakes they might make.

We're not sure why so many people are obsessed with superheroes that use only their fists to make the world a better place, but we have always found it incredibly unrealistic if we're being honest. Sure, we would like to think that the people in power in the real world, that ones that actually know what is happening and how they can influence it, would choose good methods to bring about change, but that doesn't mean it will ever happen! Hurt by a past that was forced upon him, the main character of this show is going to do what he needs to do to change things...

It's no surprise that movies in which hackers try to change the world are starting to rise in popularity, as it's very close to what many of us are seeing happen in the real world. Just like many people who dedicate their lives to staying indoors and trying to change things from there, the main character in this show has social anxiety and struggles with depression. However, he's an amazing hacker, so he is picked up by another character to help him try and change the world by deleting all of the debt records in the world, bringing us all back to zero.

We've always enjoyed the concept of somebody being taken out of their natural habitat, watching a "normal" person trying to deal with the criminal underworld they've been thrown into, and this man is perfect as the main character as well. Anybody that has seen Jason Bateman in anything else knows that one of his greatest strengths as an actor is that he's able to look as if he is one of the most normal men in the world, while also hiding a lot within at the same time. We can never tell what he's thinking, as if we'd never be able to tell if he was telling the truth or not...

We live during a time where it can be hard to find the funny side of a lot of the things going on around the world, but thankfully there are shows like this that can always remind us that there are things to laugh at! Originally created by the man who brought us the UK based The Thick Of It and In The Loop, this is a satire that really digs deep into the darker side of things, while always making us laugh while they do it. That takes a really good set of writers to manage that sort of thing.

While a lot of people enjoy this show, we don't think a lot of people know that it is actually based on a movie from the early 1970s, one that was actually written by the man that originally wrote the novel version of Jurassic Park! Despite the foundation that was laid out for it, the TV show has started going in a completely different direction, deciding to make the name their own, not wanting to do exactly the same thing that had already been done before, which we definitely think is the best way of doing this sort of thing.

Despite the fact that many of us probably wouldn't think of somebody passing on from this life as a particularly funny concept, this show manages to posit ideas on what may be lying in wait for once we shuffle off this mortal coil while also making us laugh wildly at the actions of the main characters! There's a big twist as well that we don't want to spoil, but we just want to let everyone know there is a lot more to this show than meets the eye, so get on watching it and give it a proper go sometime!

Larry David is one of the main men behind the now famous show Seinfeld, and after that had blazed a trail through the world of television, he decided that he wanted to create a show with his now rather large amount of fame. He wanted to put together a show that revolved around a fictional version of himself, meaning that he was allowed to include real celebrities that would then play exaggerated versions of themselves as well! It has been going for a very long time at this point, and we can see exactly why, as it continues to make people laugh.

This animation takes a brilliant look at what it can be like growing up, and how we can all have a laugh at our own expense if we want to, and how much better that really is!

This is a sitcom that set out to try and make something that had never been done before. Sure, we can definitely see the inspirations that helped put this show together, the ones that laid the foundation for the creators to work from, but it truly was like nothing else when it first came out. It took a couple of seasons for them to find their feet, but ever since then they have been producing a high quality show, something that everybody should be watching as it gives the audience something they didn't even know that they wanted in the first place!

Of all the animated television shows that are meant to be watched by adults, this is the only one that seems to be able to properly balance the comedy with the more serious moments. Nobody is ever going to say that this show is a drama by any stretch of the imagination, but the writers have consistently managed to make an audience both laugh and think, which isn't something we can often say about the stuff that is written for television, In a good and proper world, there would be a lot more shows like this on television for us to watch!

Based on a comic book, this show follows a man who is imbued with a power, the power to be able to influence anyone that he wants to just by using his voice. Sadly, there are some people out there that aren't happy with him having this power, and it isn't long before he's forced into reevaluating everything he thought he understood about himself and the world around him. It may seem ridiculous to some people who aren't familiar with the story, but we think that there is a lot here that nobody will see anywhere else on television at the moment.

Choosing to make an adaptation of something that originally started out as a comic book can be difficult, as they're a pretty unique medium in a lot of ways, which means it can be hard to then try and cram it all into a television series. That being said, a lot of people think that this web series was able to take the decade old comic book and inject some real life into it, offering a new perspective on the story and bring the narrative to the attention of a lot of people that would've otherwise overlooked it for the rest of their lives.

When this spin-off was first announced, people were skeptical that it could ever live up to the legend of the series it was based on, and yet it has somehow managed to surpass it during its short time on our screens. Looking back, knowing what we know now about the show, it's amazing to think that any of us ever had any doubt that this show would be a hit, a fantastic look at just what can be achieved on television when writers sit down to follow the development of a character as they move from one personality to another.

Worrying to think that there probably are teachers out there that are just like this teaching our kids!

We promise people that is does bring the laughter, no matter the premise, and while we do want to talk a lot about what happens, we don't think we should as it is better to go into this sort of thing blind. If people are looking for a new comedy to watch then we say that this is definitely the show that they should be looking at.

It was the start for so many actors that now have a lot of jobs within showbiz and even got Judd Apatow his major start. Throw in the fact that this is considered a comedy, managing to find humor in what is a genuinely difficult lifestyle that so many women find themselves in, and we've got an absolute winner here, one that shows that all lives are filled with so many special moments of fun and laughter. No matter what, with work and perseverance, we can always feel better about the position that we are in.

Weird to think that there will be jobs in ten years that don't exist right now!

We think that it is hard for anyone to argue that the most compelling thing to be found in both television and film is when two characters with very separate aims realize that they understand each other better than anyone else will. It's as if they have to accept that the only people that can understand them will always be their enemy, unable to have a true connection with anyone in this world. This concept is exactly what this show focuses on, based as it is on a series of novels that have also inspired various movies in the past as well!

Anybody that hasn't watched this show should definitely give it a go as it offers something that we struggle to find anywhere else, which is namely a comedy show that follows the life of a woman who is, essentially, a particularly bad person that refuses to own up to her problems and try to change things. However, it's still a joy to follow her as she tries to move forward, tries to atone for the mistakes she has made in the past and look for a life that is more than what she currently has. We think it's the best comedy on TV at the moment.

We're sure that a lot of people have seen this show, but we know that a lot of people haven't yet and we think that's a worry, as it is one of the most surreal experiences on television. At this point, there really isn't much else that has managed to capture the feeling and atmosphere that Lynch was able to put across in this series. Nobody can match him on the big screen or the small screen. Watching something like this is closer to taking part in a piece of art than it is turning something on in an attempt to be entertained.

Anyone that likes their comedy fast should give this one a look as soon as possible because we don't think we've ever heard people chat as fast as this in a comedy, while also allowing us the opportunity to keep up as well!

Set in Ireland during the 90s, it takes a look at a time when things were very difficult for the people of Ireland, while also highlighting the social and cultural differences that many people would find if they were to take a trip there, even now that it's two decades later! Definitely worth a watch for anyone who wants a laugh we think!

When we first watched this show, we were amazed by the way that it took everything we knew about the portrayal of women on TV and threw it out of the window. The women in charge of creating this show saw that there was an expectation of how women should act on screen, and that it was women writers that were doing this as well, so they wanted to show that it didn't have to be this way. This comedy follows two friends as they try to figure out who they, leaving their twenties behind and becoming actual grown-up adults.

When we first heard about this show, we were a little skeptical that it would be able to achieve the brilliance and success of the movie, one of the best pieces of cinema that has been produced in the last few decades. However, it is now on its third series and it is widely agreed that it is currently one of the best things people can see on their television, and for good reason! Not only are the performances brilliant, but the writing is superb as well, offering a real level of tension that keeps the audience right on the edge of their seats!

We imagine that a lot of people haven't seen this, and we think that definitely needs to change. Rather than being a standard show that follows someone trying out things in real life, this is a comedy that is scripted. It follows a character as he tries out and then tells us about a whole host of odd things, such as personal and social choices. We don't want to spoil anything about it as it is definitely something that people should get into without any sort of knowledge, as it makes it so much better and so much more enjoyable.
