When Stephen (Matthew Broderick) proposes to his girlfriend (Leslie Mann) he expects that she will accept but she does the complete opposite. She asks him to move out of their apartment and insists that they see other people for a while. His troubles begin when Chip (Jim Carrey), the overfriendly cable guy shows up at his new place and decides that he wants to be friends.
